There is also codewalr.us that is fairly active for TI calcs (mainly Axe, xLIBC and BASIC, though). Or there is TI-BASIC Developer and TI-Planet  but the latter is French

Yeah, there isnt enough traffic on this site for me to check in with any kind of frequency. May I suggest going to Cemetech.net or Omnimaga.org for your questions?

It bothers me that all the last stuff that happened on this site was September of last year...

unfortunately, that is used to help prevent bots from attacking. a good example of this would be Spud's forum.
right now, this verification is all we have.

I find the verification slightly annoying. Every time I post.

Anyway, I don't want to simplify too much the homepage, because we need to be seo compliant and explain to boot what this website is talking about.

ok thank you Luxen. I think we could do something like this with html+css, why use flash? Anyway, what we could do is maybe to publish recent post and recent q&a on homepage...

KnightOS
« on: June 02, 2014, 08:58:46 PM »
Now, some around the TI community have seen KnightOS resurfacing from a brief time of silence. KnightOS is a 3rd party Operating System for the TI-83+ and compatible calculators, And for the TI-84+CSE.

Now, before anyone groans about another 3rd party OS, I feel it necessary to point out how powerful KnightOS really is, even at its current 0.2.0 state.

KnightOS supports multitasking - and not like how that wimpy shell, TSE, does it. It really allows programs to work in the background.

KnightOS is Unix-like and sports several features such as a full filesystem. the KFS, the file system for KnightOS, is nearing read and write completion right now.

KnightOS allows the user to use more RAM than the TIOS allows - almost a 7k difference!

KnightOS also stores everything to the flash. this means that relatively little will be lost when you - sorry, if you - ram clear.

finally, KnightOS is open source. no, the source isn't just given out, it is commented to a T and easily readable to many.

while the future of KnightOS looks bright and happy, SirCmpwn and I cannot stress how important it is that we get as many users on this project as possible. it doesn't even matter if you cannot write code; come by KnightOS.org (chat at #KnightOS on freenode) and offer opinions and spread the word of this great operating system!

and now I gotta show you something cool: https://mediacru.sh/fZThS_gJLOrj.gif

WIP of Pheonix!
I dont think [the proper OS file] is available for download yet, but this is still pretty cool, I think.

This Phoenix clone is made by you ?

In any case it's really impressive  :o

I just tested KnightOS, seems really cool and powerful. I regret that my ti83 can't benefit from it :'(

The embedded debugger is a nice feature. The gui is well designed. And there is a kind of custom filesystem right?

no, I wont be able to develop for KnightOS as soon as I would like (school stuff), though I have 3 projects in mind for when I do (Ignition, F2GC (gonna take a while), and a 3D space shooter (uber-lightweight, not really for anything but demonstrating fx3dlib and KOS's power).

the newest OS file now contains most of the Pheonix port, by the way.

as for the filesystem, KOS does indeed have its own special FS, called the KFS. VFS may be implemented in the future, too.

Knight OS is a really useful project, something which was missing for ti84+ (not sure if I missed some alternatives?!).

Congrats to the developers, great project !

Alternative OS's for the TI-8x platform happen to be-well... sad. there are a few uploaded to the TICalc archives, but, as we all know, those aren't much good for actual use.

AHelper, of Cemetech, was slowly working on an OS written mostly in the C language. however, I think the project is an almost constant stall, and he has been doing other projects too.

we are up to build 255 of the KnightOS version 0.2.0! while I havent been able to follow the development as close as I would have liked, I will say that it generally seems more stable, and a popular game was added.

A new game has been added, but as of the snapshot I downloaded, it is not on the Main screen. to get to it, you must navigate through the "prog" folder. just try to look for something that sticks out, I want to see if anyone else can find it (unless SirCmpwn added it to the homescreen of Castle overnight).

Besides this new game, it seems loads of backside features were implemented. I wasn't sure KnightOS could get faster, but it feels like it has.
